Durga Pooja – The Festival of Peace & Sanctity
Durga Puja also referred to as Durgotsava is an annual festival of Hindu Goddess Durga and is celebrated in October with great devotion. In India, the festival is most popular in the eastern states, however it is also celebrated in several other states. Durga Puja is celebrated in Nepal and Bangladesh as a major festival.
During the week of Durga Puja, the entire Durgadevotees’ lives become standstill no matter in which part of the world they are. The festival commemorates the annual visit of the GoddessDurga with her children to her parents’ home, leaving finally on the Dussehrato be re-united with Shiva. This leaving ceremony is symbolized by the immersion of the idols.
Mantras the integral part of DurgaPuja are accompanied by the rhythmic beatings of the dhak, smell of the incense sticks and flowers. The whole atmosphere is vibrant with devotion and prayers.
Durga Puja is most popular among the Bengali community and has been cited in many indian movies portraying as a tradition of Bengali culture. The autumnal festival itself is a symbol of peace and sanctity, depicting power of female. It connects people and gives a tug to every Bengali heart.
